Promoting responsible driving, Oswald C. Buchanan coined the slogan after observing what he described as young whipper-snappers who would "step on the gas...often resulting in serious injury when something went wrong". Philadelphia Inquirer - May 27, 1937
Over the decades, the initiative was later embraced by his grandson and great-grandson, expanding to locations including New York City, New Jersey, Bermuda, Hawaii, and Delaware/Maryland. The campaign also evolved to include bumper stickers, wristbands, and other public-awareness efforts aimed at ending distracted driving while carrying forward the original message: Live to Enjoy Another Drive.
